The Dam Video

Not too many campaign promises are kept, especially by a candidate who lost the election. Although I'm delighted that the dam was saved, in the upcoming posts I will divulge the money wasted and the lies told, in the attempt to demolish the dam.

  1. I wish I had been there to jump up and cheer, good on ya, South Whitehall!
You need to make yourself heard to get what you want. To those who have already started whining about the cost (and those people dont even live in the township): we have had our taxes swiped and wasted for far less worthy reasons. None of the South Whitehall residents who have been showing up, signing the petitions (7500 of us!) and leaving commentary under the slanted articles pushed out there by the Morning Know-It-All and other rags thought for a second that maintaining a century old dam was going to be accomplished for free. We have already HAD free..we had the dam 100 years already with minimal spent on refurbishing. As we all heard from the WC.."it's not a high threat dam". Let the grant-seekers sniff out money to address a dangerous structure that risks property or life. For now, we residents of South Whitehall can expect to continue to enjoy the fishing, wading, and spectacle of the water flow over Wehr's Dam.

  3. Congratulations Mike, this victory is largely due to your efforts.

  4. VOR@8:04, i did start the effort, but i was joined within a month by bill and lori wehr and robert schantz. leroy schmidt collected thousands of the signatures at the dam itself. it was a joint effort including numerous people.

  5. Congratulations!

I don't live in South Whitehall, but the officials made the right call.

Government bureaucrats and special interest do-gooders can't seem to resist the temptation of supposedly free money. If there is a grant to be had, they'll always find a way to spend it, even if that means doing something unnecessary.

Just look at the ugly destruction done to the park system in Allentown in the name of 'improving' something that was doing just fine as it was.

This Wehr's result was a rare, but huge win for citizen voices everywhere.

  6. Congratulations Mike. Understood there were others involved, but your leadership made this vote happen.

    Thank you.

  7. banker@10:04, the wehr family and myself, as a matter of strategy, operated independently from one another. while my online petition received 500 plus signatures, their efforts resulted in over 7,000 names. the commissioner, who led the vote to save the dam, mentioned last night that he was very unimpressed with the work done by the wildlands in lehigh parkway. he was there by my invitation to the commissioners, and attended my last tour of that park. although the morning call excluded me from today's article, it would be fair to say that i deserve equal credit, but no more.

  8. Congrats, MM. Is it OK for me to bring my Save Wehr Dam signs now?

  10. I am thrilled beyond belief with this glorious news. This is the last park in the area that has not been destroyed by the horrible group of liars that call themselves Wildland Conservation. Please tell me that this also means that there will be no other ugly destruction at the park such as the riparian buffers that have destroyed the parks in Allentown.I want to thank everyone involved with this fantastic victory, that includes Leroy, all who signed the petition, the township officials who saw through Wildlands lies, and you Mike. Justice and common sense prevailed on this one.

what needs to be remembered and brought up again in 2 years is Christina Tori Morgans role in all this, she needs to be held accountable for her actions and catering to out of township interests. Remember she is not a native South Whitehall resident, she immigrated to South Whitehall and never attended Parkland and has no attachment to the culture and society of the Township. Time to vote her OUT!!!!!!!!!

  12. @2:24, ms. morgan has actually caused more consequences than is known. i will be writing about this in a separate post. f.y.i., i'm convinced that david bond only voted for retaining the dam because three others had previously voted yes (bloch, daubert and jones) so he decided to go along with the majority, otherwise i believe he preferred to see it demolished

  14. Good job to all involved.

The assault is not over. The WC is committed to turning all the parks abutting the Jordan into riparian buffers. As I have mentioned here before, look at the WC "greenway corridor" plan. This not merely a walking trail plan. It is a 1/4 mile wide, public and private, property rights grab.

  15. Hoping that Mike runs for Commissioner in South Whitehall. Bond is not a native and would have voted to tear down that dam if one of the others were swayed. He was not a friend of the dam since this nightmare started.
