Allentown's National Searches

Allentown doesn't hire the mediocre by chance, they use consultants and do national searches. It's second from Out Of Town park director has resigned. Years ago we had local directors, but nationally known parks. The depreciation of the park system is a sore spot with me. I will do a separate post on that subject this week. I mention the park directors as a lead in to the other prize selected by national search, the police chief.

The search consultants found the former Philadelphia policeman in Texas, working as a chief there. As mentioned in a previous post, I will not comment on the specifics of his son's arrest, that remains for a court to sort out. I am concerned with comments made by the chief and his Philadelphia lawyer, concerning racial profiling. If Pawlowski thought that the police chase, which almost ran into his tent of dignitaries this summer, was a disaster, wait until Al Sharpton starts marching on Hamilton Street. In light of the recent tension in Missouri, it was ill advised for Fitzgerald and his attorney to make such an accusation. Although the chief is a father wanting to defend his son, he was hired as a professional, to lead Allentown's police force. As Pawlowski begins to look for a new park director, he might also want  to consider a new police chief.

  1. They should be hiring local instead. When you have people working for the city that actually live in or right near the city they usually care more.

  3. @6:06, that might have to be you, then you will have to find another place to report your findings. i'm only interested in defending the traditional park system and it's WPA structures.

  4. Mike,

One has to think the very important relationship between the chief and the district attorney is strained at this point. That has to be counter productive.

  5. Perhaps it takes situations like this to occur for a professional to see the reality of the environment he /she has been tasked to guide.

What a novel concept, a father standing up for his child instead of drinking the Kool-Aid (For the Greater Good).

Kudos to the police chief. It is evident early on that the folks in Allentown would like him to shut up.

There is an embarrassing inconvenience in pointing out the reality that racism is alive and well in Allentown and it goes both ways.

  6. apologist or antagonist, or in your case both @7:58. fitzgerald's initial statement that he believed that his son was innocent was totally acceptable. his lawyer using a racial profiling defense in court also would be totally acceptable. what was NOT acceptable was the lawyer having a press conference publicly making the profiling accusation. fitzgerald seemingly had no hesitation in using his position to secure his son a job with the county. he has an obligation as the chief law enforcement officer to suppress incendiary situations, certainly not cause them.

  7. Wonder when the search for a Fire Chief will take place. Department heads are given 12 months to move into the city and be residents. Chief Kudlak's time will be up early 2015.

  8. @9:27, i don't know anything about kudlak. assuming that he came through the ranks at the department, and is doing a credible job, allentown has more important things to worry about than residency.

  11. Interesting that you say "I will not comment on the specifics of his son's arrest, that remains for a court to sort out" since you've already deemed yourself judge, jury and executioner on this matter over at O'Hare's blog...

  12. blog mentor @2:17, at o'hare's i also don't comment on the charges against the young man, other than to say that he should be fired from the prison. in my opinion, and i differ strong with o'hare on this incident, he seemingly doesn't have the temperament to handle the responsibility of a prison job. having a concealed carry permit doesn't mean that you're supposed to be always armed and pointing the gun at people.
