The Forever Bridge

As the recently departed city engineer, Richard Young, was giving his blessings to the Wildlands Conservancy phonies to demolish the Robin Hood Dam, supposedly for ecology, the Cedar Creek, just south of the Taking Forever New Union Street Bridge, was disastrously eroding it's banks. In the destruction, caused by the coffer dams and resulting creek rerouting for bridge construction, the trees are dying and the pedestrian bridge has been virtually destroyed. This bridge served the parking lot and children of Hamilton Park for decades. Another casualty of the Taking Forever Bridge, is that both the Union Terrace baseball fields are out of commission. Save for this blog, where has the Park and Engineering oversight been hiding?

  1. I live near this Bridge and pass by it regularly. Month to month I can see no discernible progress, every once and a while in recent weeks I have seen some workers, but this winter the snow had no foot prints in it for weeks on end. Trying to figure out when work started. Was it Spring 2013? Any idea when they are claiming it will be done? Why do these projects take so incredibly long? The 15th Street Bridge drags on as well, 6 months after it was declared finished.

  2. bill@7:04, time apparently was not of the essence in either contract. the stone faced concrete retaining wall, toward union terrace, appears to have been nicely done by the contractor. i was told today that the bridge piers are complete, and the beams are coming. i was told by a city employee that there was some commotion and delay because of pipes under the creek which had to be rerouted, although the bridge foreman wouldn't confirm that. that section of the creek i show in the photos was called cedar run, because it was so narrow. it's now twice the width, and undermining the former bank trees. the approaches to the pedrestian bridge are now also surrounded by water, although one side was filled in with stone by the contractor, attempting to save it.
