The Year Of Promise

Mayor Pawlowski has a new sermon on his Facebook page about selling our water system, actually it's only a fifty year lease. And it was written in a town near Bethlehem "a unique solution has been identified that is not only feasible, but I believe, the right thing to do. City Council and I propose a long-term lease of the city’s water treatment and distribution system and the sewer collection, treatment and disposal system." I was under the impression that City Council had to evaluate and approve this proposal, seems as if they're already on board. The apostle Julio is mentioned. "City Council President Julio Guirdy expressed concern that public consideration be just as important as the city’s, so we have scheduled four public meetings on the first four Thursdays in August to present this proposal to the public and listen to your feedback." If both the mayor and city council has already decided that this is the way to go, these public meetings are just the usual dog and pony shows. In a proclamation biblical in tone, Pawlowski declares 2012 the year of promise. "This proposal represents a fantastic opportunity to cover our costs, shore-up our bottom line and avoid tax increases for the foreseeable future. I called 2012 the Year of Promise. With this option we can realize our promise. It gives us the ability to rebuild our financial foundations, leverage the progress we have forges together, and turn our progress into success." Be sure to attend those public meetings, your opinion on the subject surely matters to them.

  1. The kings numbers for the lease of allentowns failing water and sewer numbers are the same as the numbers to the Big Brown Hole. Does anyone besides me find this to be some more of his political propaganda promises to build the Hole? Also prez Guirdy was the only latino in this meeting representing the greatest population of allentown with only himself? Another question were was the town bullies cheerleader ms jiggles and giggles there was no pole but there was a mike.

Than last but not least let the bankrupty judge sell off property the city owns, the parks are not owned by th city they are in care of, well the only real asset the city owns is the Big Brown Hole, the property were the colonial was and than if it comes right down to it albert dadouch has not lived up to his obligation to the city so the americus is allentown.

Bank the monies made from the sales in a untouchable pension fund for the APD and AFD problem solved for many years to come. Make all these suits representing the town bully give the monies appropreated for unneeded services rendered allentowns in the + again. The town BULLY had that meeting hostage and with his office lady questioning him for the people, that was not public input!

  2. Pawlowski is obviously certifiably nuts. Selling public services, putting the cities eggs all in one basket (MINOR LEAGUE hockey) while enriching his friends. A hotel with suites overlooking minor league hockey. I can probably go the Wilks-Barr for the Penquins or Hershey for the Bears more easily and safely. Believe it or not, I won't spend the night in either place.

  3. Pawlowski is nuts. Selling public services, parks, airports, etc., makes no long range sense. Putting all the cities eggs in one basket, MINOR league hockey, is another. Driving to Wilkes-Barre for the Penquins or Hershey for the Bears will be easier and safer. Believe it or not, I won't need a hotel with an ice view suite.

  4. The Powers that be have decided .

But the little people do get to go to a public meeting and have their little voices heard for the record.

Ah,democracy in action. His sweet it is!

  5. Guidry voted for the pension agreement that allowed Allentown Police and Firefighters to loot city coffers.

HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAVE BEEN ELECTED TO ANOTHER OFFICE IN ALLENTOWN OR LEHIGH COUNTY AGAIN!

He wants to be elected mayor. He should never be elected to any position in Allentown or Lehigh County again, ignoreince or stupidly is no excuse.

  6. What happens to the raw sewage that during storms spills onto the grass in Lehigh Parkway? Who is responsible for that now? Anyone or no one? Interesting. If city residents allow this lease to go through they will lose all control over their monthly billing, maybe even the quality of their water too.

  7. "FANTASTIC!"

And no tax increase! Just water and sewer bills that go up 15% a year, year in,year out.

The new owners, I'm sorry lessees, need to turn a profit after they pay off the pension costs.

If you don't like the arrangement, you are of course free to just not use any water. And the best part, it's not really being sold! In just 50 short years, you the citizen and tax payer, get your water infrastructure back again. Just like it was never gone.

    Good God,this is free money!

    "FANTASTIC!"

  8. SELL THE PARKS. Government should not be in the recreation business. Support privatizing the park system NOW! Then sell the airport and the water and sewer.
    Say no to socialism.

  9. Is it true the mayor is hosting community meetings around town? Is he having a Spanish language speaker at these meetings?
Many of our city's residents only speak Spanish and to be fair and keep them informed of the enormous impact of community leasing water for 50 years which means most of these folks will be gone before the lease is up shouldn’t the city also host
meetings in Spanish?    Call it a lease but it might as well be a sale. Where is Julio in all this? Is he going to these meetings? Has the city’s only local daily addressed the possible language barrier issue?

  10. Bet one goes in Lehigh Parkway.

Mack at Lehigh is one of the most accident-prone intersections in the city. Of course a billboard belongs there.

Eight new digital billboards will be built in various places throughout Allentown, which will bring in $163,800 in annual revenue to the city once they are all complete.

City council gave its blessing Wednesday to a 15-year contract with a company to build the billboards on city-owned properties, with the city collecting up to 25 percent of the gross advertising revenues.

The billboards will be built in three phases over a yet-undetermined period of time, according to the agreement approved by council with Premier Media Allentown LLC.

The first phase will establish three 12-by-24-foot signs at MacArthur Road at Jordan Park, Lehigh Street near the Mack South Fire Station, and the 2000 block of West Hamilton Street.

  12. Recently a major utility company stated it was going to do a more
    aggressive form of tree trimming.
Folks, take a walk in Lehigh Parkway from the Hunter's Cabin west towards Cedar Crest Boulevard. Is this what's in store for all our woods everywhere?

  13. The city should sell the parks. Let someone buy them who cares about how they look. Lehigh Parkway has dirty old plastic bins as garbage pails.
Trexler uses designer. Some might call this discrimination.

  15. Maybe you have an above ground pool for the grandchildren in Mountainville.
Maybe your retired parents have a nice big flower garden in the West End.
Maybe you have a husband and a couple of grown sons who work hard at a dirty, dangerous construction site and you always have a load of laundry going.
Well folks,in a couple of years the water you use is going to cost you two, three, four times as much.
And it's going to climb and climb.
But,and this is very important, don't worry.
    It won't be a " tax".

Or am I having a bad dream?

Allentown just paid for the paperwork scam this is just like theft of services, allentown public pays for some thing it never gets. Yet the plump king has done this over and over since his oppointment in 2006. He is helping his jesters bilk allentowns tax base public out of allentows every asset. Like a vampire lurking around after dark to plunder some poor helpless soul of there blood?

  17. 15% hike unmodulated taxes versus privatizing water. Hate to say it, but I agree with Pawlowski on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Im afraid your not quite getting the entire picture Monkey Momma. A quick survey of communities where this water privatization has been done suggests 10% to 15% a year, YEAR AFTER YEAR.
But don't take my word for it. Do your own research. The information is easy to find.
You might start with the link on LVCA's blog site.

  24. Entitlement?

The president of city council shows up at a public event he is invited to, late.

Driving a vehicle with municipal plates he parks on a corner in restricted parking, blocking the vision of other cars in the intersection.

He getts out, leaves the vehicle and attends the event. "Ah what the hell, I'm late and it is really hot and humid out."

Wonder if the parking authority nabbed him?

    Starts small, grows big.
