Allentown Gets Poorer

Molovinsky Wants to Reallocate Grants

THE INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR OF ALLENTOWN SAYS HE WANTS TO MAKE THE CITY UNATTRACTIVE TO LOW-INCOME RESIDENTS. MICHAEL MOLOVINSKY HELD A NEWS CONFERENCE OUTSIDE A HOME ON WEST LIBERTY STREET TODAY.
MOLOVINSKY SAYS ONE OF THE LARGEST PROBLEMS IN ALLENTOWN IS THE POVERTY RATE. CHANNEL 69 NEWS. SEPT. 9. 2005*

Allentown learned today that it's population became poorer between 1999 and 2005.** That's the good news, I know we became even poorer between 2005 and now. When Pawlowski, as a member of the Allentown Housing Authority, endorsed building the newest public housing project in United States, what's the message there? When Pawlowski, first as Community Development Director under Afflerbach, now as Mayor, uses the Community Block Grants to seed organizations which depend of a flow of new poor people, what's the result? Being an advocate for the poor is morally commendable, but it is no criterion on which any city can sustain itself.

  1. " ... what's the message ..."

Clearly, the message (of this post) is, "See, as a mayoral candidate, I had it right and you should have voted me into office instead of Pawlowski. But you'll have another chance because I'm running again so don't blow it this time. Watch for me as a regular participant in The Morning Call Sounding Board and Letters to The Editor. In an amazing turnaround, TMC isn't marginalizing and ignoring me anymore. Quite the opposite in fact; I've become somewhat of an MC darling lately. Funny how things can work out ..."

  2. bill villa, yesterday someone complained on a topix forum that i have been getting too much attention. today, someone even suggested my endeavors in regard to the cemetery are political. my recent presence in the morning call is all coincidental, two letters related to crime and two articles about the cemetery. one letter predated the "sounding board" and numerous letters from assorted people generated the cemetery article. i have been involved with one cause or another going back for 15 years. i'm disappointed you have personified your frustration with the morning call on me.

  3. Right. I forgot. My personal vendettas disqualify me from being perceptive, insightful, or right, about anything. My mistake. As always.

  4. Bill -

I'm an outsider on the blogs but I noted your post here, recent posts on Bernie O'Hare's blog, and comments on the MC readers forum have become personal to the point where your message is being lost.

Is there a reason you are taking Mr. Molovinsky to task for his post? I live in Allentown and appreciate Mr. Molovinsky's interest in Allentown and ability to call attention to the city's many problems. I don't always agree with his position on the issues but your post here is simply baffling unless there is something else going on behind the scenes.

While I don't think your criticism of the Morning Call or Jim Martin is unjustified, the tone of your posts lately is not serving you well. Perhaps it is time to step back and rethink your approach.

I wish the best for you and my desire is to help. I hope you are not offended by the unsolicited advice of an outsider.

I just don't agree with any of it.

    "Blog Outsider" here again.

You two seem to know something the rest of us don't.

Do you want to share the info - in a way we can all understand? Otherwise, your posts don't seem to have a point.

  9. ... also see Bernie O'Mcall's (formerly Bernie O'Hare's) post of Aug 27, "Bennett Defends POM Salary."

Since this crime was committed in Northampton County, DA John Morganelli will be the person eventually filing charges. I like John Morganelli a lot ...
